Blitzkrieg

2020 was ‘my year,’ I claimed it… I had plans! Great plans! Complete my third book by June; organise a sponsor weekend for the network of churches of which I am a member; take a long awaited and much needed holiday in Jamaica and do a sponsored trek up Blue Mountain, the highest point on the Island; and the list goes on. Whilst it is good to plan, life teaches us not to get too ahead of ourselves. In the Bible, the book of James tells us that tomorrow is not promised to us, so before we make the big plans, we should ∗check in with the Lord, if this is His will for our lives!

2018 was an awful year for me and I was glad to see the back of it. 2019 was a year for gathering my strength focusing on the Lord and finding out His perfect will for my life. After allowing Him to build me up physically, spiritually and mentally, I approached 2020 with ‘great expectations.’ Time to mobilise and get moving again; or so I thought.

To say that ‘2020 did not start as planned,’ is the understatement of the decade. “A Blitzkrieg on humanity,” is how I describe it. Spiritual warfare of the worst kind. And just to be clear… God did not inflict this on the world and He is the only one who can take us out of it and heal us. The attack crept silently, not so threatening at first but then picked up pace faster than the world could respond. All nations thrown into a frenzy of identifying the nature of it, trying to fight it and slow it down in the hope of eventually finding a cure for it. Fear, distrust, panic blame all fought for their place on this universal stage!

While the Coronavirus is attacking the very core of humankind, causing the afflicted to die alone away from family and friends, there is only one force that can handle it, the force of Good – God! Mankind has always been tested and fallen fowl of Evil; the things that are not of God. The enemy has and will continue to fight hard to destroy the object of God’s love… US! Out of love God created us, out of love He sent His Son to die for us, out of love He delivered us from a hopeless existence and gave us Salvation. Out of love He gave us a HOPE in Him!

A force that separates us from each other, isolates us, prevents us from earning our living, prevents us from helping each other; a force that causes many to be selfish and to seek only to help themselves. A force that threatens relationships and the family bond, is a blitz on mankind! It is destructive. It is at this time that those who know how to pray need to ‘stand in the gap’ and intercede on behalf of the world. Christians, people of God… this is not a time to get carried away with our limited view of what is happening, nor is it time for conspiracy theories. We cannot see the enemy’s endgame, so we focus on God so He can reveal what is happening in the spiritual world and counteract it.

When the enemy comes in like a flood, the Lord will lift up a standard against him (Isaiah 59:19 NKJV). We need to be ready and available, obedient and seeking God’s counsel so that He can lift up His standard in us.

2020 may have started with a blitzkrieg on mankind but there will be no swift victory for the enemy. We lose the battle when we lose hope, and hope is in abundance. God’s beautiful creation will not meet an untimely end. It is not over until He says it’s over. Be aware of false prophets who will be riding high on the ‘doomsday’ wave. This is the start of 2020 but it is not the end!

∗Scripture for today
James 4:13-15

13 Now listen, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we will go to this or that city, spend a year there, carry on business and make money.” 14 Why, you do not even know what will happen tomorrow. What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes. 15 Instead, you ought to say, “If it is the Lord’s will, we will live and do this or that.”
