World within World

ecommerce-3562005_1920We have a habit of getting ourselves into the most terrible mess and the Lord having to get us out of it. This has been true from the beginning of time and today is no different. How do we do it? If nothing else we’re consistent.

Amid all the conspiracy theories, we are fighting a faceless enemy. We don’t know how it evolved, how its developing or where it is going. But we do know it is divisive and destructive. Mankind is trying to come together in love, but from a distance. To say that the global horizon is already unrecognisable, is an understatement. In the twenty first century, the world is fighting for survival again. But how are we staying on top of it. Where is the help coming from?

Well, help is coming from the most unexpected place, the Virtual World!

For a long time now the virtual world has existed within our world. We dip in an out of it at will drawing from it the necessities to assist in our physical world. Until now, a world where some go to hide, seeking safety within its walls of anonymity,  others to build an online profile to progress a career, socialise or study; some to help others and some to destroy – the reasons are endless. It is known by many names, the world wide web, the internet, online networking, social media… all attributes of that world. Many have resisted it through fear, lack of knowledge or relevant skills, lack of affordability, misunderstanding or misuse, again the reasons are endless. But here it is now, a world we can live in, mirroring our physical world as much as possible.

We are not in a physical war with other nations, we are not being attacked by armed forces, we don’t think it is an alien invasion… but it is causing us to take unprecedented steps to protect our lives and our livelihood.

The virtual world, now at the forefront of our very existence, is host to our worship, education, shopping – actually it was always host to my shopping! Governments are governing countries via social media and virtual meetings. And while our world is not thriving at the moment and nations are concerned about when to kick start their economies, another world is thriving alongside the virtual world. The natural world… nature and the animal kind.

With the reduction in human interaction – the natural world and the ozone have never had it so good!! This is something to be thankful for. In this time of pain and suffering, loss and uncertainty, something is thriving; preservation of the planet. Reduced carbon footprint, changes in the way we work and socialise, is giving the planet a break.

Previous generations with the absence of our virtual world, would not have been able to cope with this outbreak as well as we have. If we think we are not coping, imagine if this was the age when the virtual world did not exist.

People are missing the simple things in life, going to their places or worship, going for walks, eating ice-cream – not the traffic jams or the break neck speed at which life was going with all it’s stresses; just the simple things. And many will be pleased that nature is getting a break as well! Is this time to reflect on changes to our way of life and assess how we can live better? Time to put things in perspective and think of others before ourselves? Whatever happens it cannot be business as usual when CO-VID 19 begins to subside.

Our strength comes from the Lord and His world cannot be destroyed, so have faith that we will come out of this. But will be we better people or worse – that is the question?

Scripture for today
Psalm 93:1 NKJV

The Lord is clothed, He has girded Himself with strength. Surely the world is established, so that it cannot be moved.
